Dear Citizens of Blackville,
We write today to inform you of an important leadership transition within the Town of Blackville Police Department.
Police Chief Shawn Howze has officially announced his resignation. During his tenure, Chief Howze worked diligently to rebuild and stabilize the Blackville Police Department. His commitment to professionalism, accountability, and public safety has left a lasting mark on our town.
Chief Howze also made community involvement a cornerstone of his leadership. From organizing youth-focused events to supporting opportunities for the less fortunate, his service extended far beyond the badge. His compassion and dedication to creating positive connections between officers and residents will be remembered and appreciated for years to come.
While we are sad to see Chief Howze step down, we are fortunate to have a strong and experienced leader prepared to take the reins.
Please join us in welcoming Lt. Freddie Washington as the new Chief of Police for the Town of Blackville, effective August 1st. Lt. Washington is no stranger to our community or department—he has previously served as both Captain and Interim Chief in Blackville and brings with him a wealth of knowledge, leadership experience, and a deep commitment to public service.
We are confident that Chief Washington will continue to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor and further strengthen the connection between the police department and the citizens it serves.
Thank you for your continued support as we are moving forward together.
Sincerely,
Ronnie Pernell
Mayor, Town of Blackville
