WHAT HAPPENED IN 2008??
Many good things have happened in our little town this year, and we have a lot to be thankful..
We started the year with “The Emancipation Proclamation Service”
at
The second annual
“Taste of Blackville” was a huge success, we had more vendors and guests
come out to celebrate with us as we opened our “Blackville Farmer’s
Market”, with many of our leading citizens participating in this
celebration. Elvis even
joined us for the day. The
The “Together Sisters” continued to serve us with their many community activities: Easter Egg Hunt, Senior Banquets, Halloween
party and so many other wonderful programs and
activities, and their annual trip for the Girl Scouts, this year to
The Blackville Area Historical Society has broken ground at the North end of town for a new Museum to celebrate our long historical journey into the 21st century.
Again, the Blackville Civic Club had their annual “Waffle Supper”, which is always a great time for all of our citizens to get together and reminisce about old times. And, of course, Santa made his annual appearance in our Christmas Parade.
Our town’s entry signs were refaced and reset, welcoming all of our visitors to our great town. Let’s not forget Blackville’s “Big Ben” which is a true asset to our town. For our children the Blackville Ministerial Association sponsored a weeklong religious program at the Blackville-Hilda High School Auditorium. Many of our young people attended and benefited from their experiences.
Our Library extended the hours of operation.
The Blackville Community Development Corporation has been working on the South Boundary Project and has completed four new homes that will be rented. The CDC has also rehabilitated 20 homes in Blackville for our seniors and disabled citizens.
We thank the Police and Fire Departments (including our volunteers) for their continued service to our town; they protect and serve us, to make our town safe and giving us the security that we need as citizens.
Let us continue to love, honor and respect our friends and neighbors and keep our town clean, healthy and safe.

WINTER ENERGY SAVING TIPS
1. Lower the thermostat on your hot water heater to 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Turn off kitchen and bath exhaust fans within 20 minutes after cooking or bathing.
3. Caulk and weather-strip doors and windows
That leak air.
4. Clean or replace filters on furnaces once a month or as needed.
5. Repair leaky faucets promptly, a small drip will waste gallons of water in a sort period of time.
6. Clean warm-air registers, baseboard heaters and radiators as needed, make sure they are not blocked by furniture, carpeting or drapes.
7. Insulate your electric water heater storage tank, do not cover the thermostat, check manufacturers literature for natural gas or oil hot water storage tanks.
8. Make sure your refrigerator door seals are airtight. Test by putting a dollar bill or piece of paper so that it is half in and half out of he refrigerator. If you can pull it out easily the latch may need adjusting or the seal may need to be replaced.
9. Turn off personal computers, monitors, copies, printers fax machines, etc. when they are not in use, it can save enormous amounts of energy.
10.
Use small electrical appliances or toaster ovens for small meals
rather than your stove or oven.
The toaster oven or small appliance uses half to third the energy
of a full sized stove or oven
