Geography

Blackville is located at 33°21′25″N 81°16′22″W / 33.35694, -81.27278 (33.357078, -81.272649).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 9.3 square miles (24.0 km²), of which, 9.2 square miles (23.7 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.3 km²) of it (1.19%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 2,973 people, 1,145 households, and 800 families residing in the town. The population density was 324.7 people per square mile (125.3/km²). There were 1,332 housing units at an average density of 145.5/sq mi (56.1/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 23.65% White, 75.61% Black, 0.07% Indian, 0.20% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.03% from other races, and 0.37% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.50% of the population.

There were 1,145 households out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 35.2% were married couples living together, 29.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.1% were non-families. 27.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.16.

In the town the population was spread out with 29.2% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 23.0% from 45 to 64, and 12.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 88.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 80.1 males.
